A refuge for wanderers in a city of dreamers.

In collaboration with Marvel Architects and Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, LWLA consulted on the design of 1.7 acres of memorial grounds to honor those who came before while serving as a key node of today’s 26-mile Brooklyn Greenway. A relic of the past married to a symbol of the present.

Meticulously selected plant life transformed the surroundings into a habitat ripe for pollinators and migratory birds, creating a vibrant, inviting landscape used for quiet reflection, wildlife observation, art installations and educational events.

“Never knew of this space – little sanctuary amid the rubble of the BQE. Boy do we need more spaces like it – to allow ourselves a moment to connect with the infinite, with the silent rhythms within – even as the traffic hums unabated, and planes fly overhead.”
