Connecticut College Arboretum

This “old field” garden is stylized after a specific landscape in the college’s research lands.

Adjacent to the centrally located Crozier Williams Student Center, the Lilian Niederman Garden features meadow grasses and wildflowers with scattered drifts of trees and shrubs.  Stylized after old field habitat in the college’s natural areas, the species used in the garden and their naturalistic composition help to bring the character and ecology of this unique habitat type into the heart of the campus.  The garden is part of Connecticut College’s Sustainability Trail highlighting that the wellbeing of the environment and people are interrelated.
